ADMINISTRATION
The Streets Decorations Section

The Streets Decorations Section is responsible for manufacturing and erecting street decorations in occasion of the feast of St Andrew the Apostle, patron saint of Luqa. Our decorations are well-known in the Maltese islands for the elaborate design and style. The oldest work that we have is a pedestal dating late 19th century. Along the years various decorations were added such as the unique pedestal of the statue of St Andrew (1985), the pilandri which are erected in St Andrew Street (1985), the pedestal of the statue of the Angel (1994), the trofej which decorate the main square (1996), and the pedestal of the statuary group showing the martyrdom of St Andrew (2017). Apart from these decorations we have statues manufactured by well-known Maltese artists such as Carlo Darmanin and Alfred Camilleri Cauchi. Our decorations includes also three sets of baroque pavaljuni all designed by Silvio Pace which decorate St Andrew Street, Dun Pawl Street and St George’s Street.

However, the main decoration which attracts the attention of those coming to our festa, is surely our Band Stand, which was inaugurated back in 1969. This was manufactured by our members under the design of Carmelo Vassallo and has works by the famous Maltese artist Vincenzo Apap, including the central basso-relievo which is a signed masterpiece.

All these works were mostly manufactured by our festa enthusiasts along the years and proudly erected in the village core during the first week of July.
